Since there are not 'titles' for the demanding work of search and rescue, many folks are unaware of what is required in a dog to do this type of work. In a nutshell, the dog has to be very confident, curious, with good drives, sound, and people oriented. You cannot 'force' a dog to want to find people. What we look for is a dog with a pronounced hunt drive, where the hunt in and of itself is self rewarding to the dog to do and doesn't need a lot of prompting or cueing to do. A high desire to interact with people, thru play, is also critical. The dog cannot have any environmental or noise issues as they will have to work in ALL kinds of environments, especially for disaster work. They also must possess a high endurance to work for hours in difficult terrain. To me, a working certified search dog is one of the best 'tests' for a working dog than any title out there now. Our certification process requires outside evaluators and consists of temperament testing (similar to a ATTS testing) endurance measuring, (1.5 mile run) and a search exercise in both day and night, covering 80 acres of Appalachian wilderness, and a multiple victim find in a rubble pile. Azah is a high drive, agile dog that is trained for disaster and wilderness live find work. She has been easy to train, with a pronounced work ethic and focus. She also has a moderate fight drive and is social and clear headed. You can see her intensity in all of her pictures. She is what we are looking for to continue and improve our lines. She is a clone of her grandmother, Mirada, with her father's looks and conformation. Exactly what we were looking for! We hope to breed her to a working line male late this year or early 2007 from lines not closely related to ours to open our genetics up a bit. By staying with working lines we hope to keep the working drives and continue the good health and longevity we already have. We do not breed until we have at least 3 puppies needed for work, and we are now there. If you are interested call now. Working or experienced training homes only. Vito is a large robust male with an outstanding temperament, good drives, and the confidence to handle anything that is put before him. He was rated excellent in both conformation and temperament at the 2005 Journee under French judges. He has just started his training in Schutzhund with the Podium Schutzhund Club in Kearneysville, WV. I personally tested Vito for work using much of the same criteria as handlers use to pick a disaster dog: http://www.disasterdog.org/forms/training/CanineScreeningV2.doc Vito did exceptionally well in all areas. He also has a good solid grip and likes the tug game without getting too defensive. Vito passed his CGC on 6/26/05 at 10 months. He was born in Pallud, France on 8/9/04 SCC - LOF 114457 / 2DYB687 Breeder: Alain Laissus AKC - DN12064503 DNA #V455951 Cardiac - Normal w/ECHO BEU--CA17/28M/C-PI-ECHO Elbows - normal BEU-EL60M28-PI, Hips, slight subluxation right hip, no other changes noted, retest in 6 months. 2005 Journee du Beauceron Jeune Class @ 13 mos Conformation - Excellent Test D’Aptitudes Naturelles (T.A.N.) – Excellent September 23-25, 2005 Auburn, Washington Judge: Maurice Hermel has been a judge since 1975; He served as the 1991 Vice President SCC; currently Board Member SCC; 1999 judge for 42 breeds in 8 FCI groups and in 2003 was recognized as an all around FCI judge. Repeatedly honored to judge at the National d’Elevage in France and Europe organized by the Les Amis du Beauceron. As chair of the Judges Committess for the last 18 years, in charge of former Beauceron judges and is an authority on the Beauceron standard. This will be an outcross, 0.0% inbreeding ratio for 8 generations back, but the dogs on both sides are all similar in working ability and temperament. These pedigrees are chock full of Elite A's, and excellent ratings for conformation and temperament. In a nutshell the working backgrounds from the De La Cite Des Grands Feux and the De La Negresse lines brings sound temperaments and Ring Sport Champions, with the scenting ability of the Loutre Noire lines (pistage, tracking). The Dam is a current working search and rescue K9, as were her parents and grandparents on her Dam's side.
